Why you need solid numbers in private medicine

Medicine should not be only about money — but without correct calculations, private clinics cannot deliver quality care.

We know and theoretically support the idea that medicine should not be tied to money, to investments, to performance indicators. Medicine means diagnosis, prevention, treatment. And that is how it should be!

But we forget that for medicine to be able to offer a correct diagnosis, to ensure optimal treatment, relief, and comfort to those who suffer, it must be financed. And every dental-practice owner has felt, at least once throughout their activity, that they do not have sufficient funds to perform — including us, when we did not have sufficient knowledge of medical management.

Why learn to make correct calculations? Because you work in the private sector, where competition does not forgive, where patients choose more than a correct medical act, and where authorities are ever more attentive to the standards you offer.

In short, if your resolution is to develop, or at least to make a change in your clinic's activity, do not forget that without correct calculations:

You do not perform — which means you will quickly lose to the competition;

You work inefficiently — you end up working a lot, for a long time, but without favourable financial results;

You have less free time — and most often you are forced to make sacrifices in your personal life;

You work outside the law — knowingly or not, if you do not follow all processes correctly, if you do not create a pricing policy that covers all your expenses (and here we are not talking only about consumables), you will work illegally;

Patients reorient toward other clinics — where they have the comfort of being treated correctly.

You do not have to take our word for it, nor give up the idea that patients are willing to invest in their health. But if you want to evolve, you must know that you are starting from wrong premises that steer you toward failure.

When should you learn how to make your calculations?

The sooner, the better. Every month you postpone your training in management and the changes you are forced to make in your professional activity, or that of your clinic, means one more point for the competition.

More than 500 doctors, managers, and clinic owners from Romania have participated in the Dental Office Managers School. And their evolution is felt in whichever of the cities where they have developed their medical businesses. It is healthy competition that will become ever stronger with each edition of ADOM programmes.
