ADOM: Demand for medical-management programmes

grew by 50% in 2021

The Association of Dental Office Managers in Romania (ADOM), leader in the field of dental-clinic management, reports a 50% increase in demand for dental-management training services in 2021, and the interest of doctors and medical managers follows the same trend in 2022 as well;

400 clinics and practices in Romania and more than 1,000 participants have followed medical-management training programmes within ADOM over its 8 years of existence on the market. The community brings together doctors, entrepreneurs, dental clinics and practices, front desk, and Dental Office Managers;

ADOM has also contributed to consolidating 123 medical start-ups from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Luxembourg, and Italy.

Over the last two years, doctors' desire to streamline their dental practices and clinics and to transform them into businesses that develop healthily, for the benefit of patients, has visibly grown. The pandemic accelerated investments in professionalising the management of dental-medicine practices and clinics, both against a background of uncertainty and as a response to the needs of patients who are increasingly informed and demanding.

By participating in dental-practice management training programmes, they learn how to streamline clinic activity so that they can focus on their professional development and, at the same time, ensure the healthy evolution of the business. Care for a healthy business and correct investments in it mean, ultimately, care for the patient — through constancy in quality medical services. In more than 70% of cases, those who participate in such certification programmes benefit from the support of a Dental Office Manager, who implements and monitors most management activities.

"Within ADOM programmes we have met a great many founding doctor-entrepreneurs who have put their dental practices and clinics under the microscope, concluding that in order to have a business that grows healthily and a loyal team, they must invest in all management processes. That is why for 8 years we have constantly developed management programmes and tools based on our more than 23 years of experience in medical business and the sharing culture that defines our clinics. We always share transparently both the success and the challenges we have as managers or owners of dental clinics, and this also contributes to doctors' desire to access Dental Office Managers School courses in greater numbers during the pandemic," declares Dr. Oana Taban, CEO Dent Estet & ADOM founder.

Moreover, during the pandemic many doctors followed the series of live sessions delivered by ADOM and were able to put into practice the business-optimisation recommendations.

Over 1,000 certified dental-clinic managers in Romania

400 clinics and practices in Romania and more than 1,000 participants have followed medical-management training programmes within ADOM over its 8 years of existence on the market. ADOM has also contributed to consolidating 123 medical start-ups from Romania, the Republic of Moldova, Luxembourg, and Italy. Moreover, in recent years the number of clinics that hold the "Dental Office Manager" position has grown, as has that of medical start-ups that pursue healthy development from the beginning.

"We have observed medical-business growth of 20–30%, up to 60%, in the first 1–2 years after participation, depending on the stage the clinic is at when it turns to ADOM training programmes. These results encourage clinic owners to invest in developing internal management processes — investments that subsequently translate into a larger number of patients, devoted doctors, predictability in business, ease of finding partners or investors, implementation of best-practice directions within medical teams, and, not least, more time dedicated to the profession in the case of doctor-owners," declares Erika Ionescu, ADOM vice president & trainer.

Among the success cases in ADOM's portfolio are clinics that have succeeded in having an occupancy rate of their 5–7 chairs of over 90% in less than 18 months from opening and patient retention of over 65% — an extremely important growth indicator for a medical business. A large part of this growth is due to streamlining the management of appointments and interdisciplinary treatments.

ADOM also constantly trains support teams within the Dent Estet group, market leader, which already holds 14 medical clinics in different cities and has plans to expand into another 3 cities in 2022.

Clinic digitalisation, the major trend of the moment

ADOM constantly carries out market studies in order to adapt training programmes as well as possible to the needs of founding doctor-entrepreneurs. Thus, the latest analyses have revealed that the digitalisation of services, as well as of the way clinics collect and report business indicators internally, has become one of the priority investments for many dental clinics.

"Digitalisation plays an extremely important role at present; an undeniable example is the Dent Estet group itself, which launched in 2017 the first fully digitalised dental clinic in the country. Investments in digitalised technology increase both the retention of patients, who receive a better medical service, and that of doctors. Beyond digitalisation, it is very important to also have correct planning, to identify the team members with the greatest potential, and to invest permanently in their professional evolution," adds Dr. Oana Taban, CEO Dent Estet & ADOM founder.

About ADOM

The Association of Dental Office Managers (ADOM) appeared 8 years ago from the desire to raise the level of dental services in Romania and to offer long-term solutions, as well as mechanisms for creating personalised management — an information base aligned with the situation of the dentistry market in Romania. ADOM is market leader in this segment and operates under the patronage of the strongest clinic chain in the country: DENT ESTET. Moreover, the entire construction of the education programmes has benefited from the guidance and support of the American Association of Dental Office Managers, worldwide leader in the field of dental-clinic management.

Over time, it has offered entrepreneurs in private dentistry in Romania the first and only dental-management programme, the Dental Office Managers (DOM) School, with the role of personalising management systems and decisions. The journey of these 8 years represents the passage from the instrument of growth and development of clinics to the status of an academy in dental management.

ADOM is the first institution in Romania that trains managers for dental practices and clinics and offers solutions for the most common problems they may face. At the same time, it aims at the high-level training of doctor-owners of clinics and practices, of those who want to open a medical business, of those who want to practise as collaborating doctors, and of those who are daily responsible for coordinating the activities and teams in dental clinics.
